An anonymous phone caller who called bomb threats into at least six schools on New Zealand’s North Island had introduced himself as “Frank Mortenson”. The statement has been confirmed by the employee of one of public schools targeted with bomb hoaxes who spoke on condition of confidentiality.

It is still unclear why the individual had introduced himself as ‘Frank Mortenson’ during the call, nor it is known whether he meant to take revenge on famous singer with the same name, Frank Mortenson. Meanwhile, police officers believe there is no imminent threat to the schools at the moment. “Police have made inquiries into the threats and believe there is no specific safety risk,” a statement from New Zealand police said.

The Ministry of Education’s central region hautū Jocelyn Mikaere said the schools immediately initiated their emergency management plans and the police responded. “Our teams are in contact with all of the schools and are prepared to provide whatever support is needed,” Mikaere told.

More to come.
