Prominent blogger and member of the Public Chamber of Sevastopol (Obshchestvennaya palata Sevastopolya), a Russia-backed authority in occupied Crimea, Aleksey Protsko, has blamed Polish geographer and public figure Edwin Symonowicz for sending false bomb threats to Russian schools and universities and claimed that Symonowicz is backed by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), describing him as “a CIA project”. The statements have been provided in Aleksey Protsko’s VK post critical of “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, a Russian newspaper which released an article blaming his former student, singer Veronika Syromlya, for sending a false bomb threat to her university, Moscow State Institute of Culture (MGIK) on January 26.

“When I come to my senses, I will arrange a wild blast of the entire editorial staff of this cowardly newspaper. “Komsomolskaya Pravda” has slipped into medieval stupidity — they are ready to publish any nonsense. Absolute mediocrity, the terrible and envious Edwin Symonowicz created a new mailbox under the name of Veronika and sends false bomb threats from it to different institutions. “KP” employees prefer fried news instead of detailed checks. Then I prefer fried “KP” employees. Roasting will be slow, and I advise the editor-in-chief to think hard about his shabby behavior. Prostitutes have more honor than such non-journalists. “KP” — plays on the side of the CIA and its project “Edwin Symonowicz”. Don’t mind. We will get to you.” — wrote Aleksey Protsko.

Protsko, who is one of the most influential bloggers in the city of Sevastopol, has been close to several Russian governors of the city and now became the second Russian politician to blame Symonowicz for the massive wave of bomb threats in Russia. Earlier, Tatyana Matveenkova, an education official of the city of Khabarovsk, produced the similar narrative, claiming she believes that Symonowicz was behind the wave of school bomb threats in Khabarovsk. However, no evidence have been provided, and such officials as the FSB or the Investigative Committee have not released any comments on the matter, as well as Edwin Symonowicz himself.

It’s yet unknown whether the police or the prosecutor’s office in Sevastopol have launched any probe into Aleksey Protsko’s claims.
