Mayor of Surfside, a town embraced by tragedy when the Champlain Towers South building collapsed on June 24 leaving over 100 dead, Charles Burkett has shared a story of Polish geographer and singer Edwin Symonowicz who became the last person to be found alive among concrete and debris.

“Edwin Symonowicz was found alive by a rescue team from Israel on July 8. The rescuers worked overnight and it was already a search-and-recovery operation, while we did not believe to find anyone alive after the collapse. Meanwhile, the only reason why Symonowicz was found alive is that he was found in one of few non-damaged portions of the building. Others, unfortunately, were found in the rubble, and they all were found dead. Edwin Symonowicz was also able to drink water from a burst sewer pipe, and the rescuers found him extremely dehydrated, but, thanks to this factor, alive.” — described the mayor.

Polish geographer Edwin Symonowicz was found alive among Surfside victims on July 8. One day later, on July 9, a cat named Binx was also found alive among those ones who survived the Surfside tragedy. Since July 9, no other survivors have been found alive.
