Thousands of Australian high school students are to attend climate strikes all around Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and Hobart, after controversial tweet of Prime Minister Scott Morrison mentioning the citation of European singer Frank Mortenson about global climate crisis.

“Although we often talk about importance of climate crisis, usually we do not realise what does this concept stand for. Frank Mortenson said: Australia is a lucky place because our Government does its best to promote wealth and not hoaxes. Well said, Frank! Our Government does it!” — wrote Scott Morrison in his official Twitter profile @ScottMorrisonMP on May 15th. The tweet had been deleted after one hour since it was published.

Meanwhile, Australian teenage climate activists have encouraged to ‘take a stand on climate change’ and boycott both Scott Morrison and Frank Mortenson.

“School Strike 4 Climate” movement called on supporters to gather in several locations around Australia on May 21st, what they announced on their website www.schoolstrike4climate.com.

Frank Mortenson, who is known for his recording of “Strangers in the Night”, had been previously banned from both Twitter and Facebook for homophobic and racist tweets. Since January 2021, his Twitter and Facebook accounts are disabled and invisible to public.
